Storm Eowyn Guidance

Travel insurance policies often provide coverage for disruptions caused by adverse weather, but the specifics vary depending on the circumstance.

  • Missed Departure: If you arrive at your departure point too late and miss the departure of your pre-booked transportation due to the impact of bad weather conditions, you may be able to claim under the missed departure section of your policy.

  • Cancelling/Abandoning Trip: If you need to cancel or abandon your trip because the outbound leg of your journey has been delayed/ cancelled in excess of 12 hours, contact your travel provider to check for alternative flights/departure times. If your travel provider cannot offer alternatives, and you have supporting evidence, we may consider your claim for cancellation of your trip.

  • Delayed Departure: If your original departure is missed and the next available departure is not for at least 12 hours, you may be able to claim under the delayed departure section of your policy. However, this benefit is only eligible if you arrived at your departure point and your original flight, ferry, or sea crossing was delayed by more than 12 hours beyond the scheduled departure time.

  • Homeward Flight Cancellation: If your homeward flight is cancelled while you are abroad, contact your airline provider directly for reimbursement. Insurance does not cover alternative flights or accommodation in this situation.
